In the present study, the numerical investigation was carried out for a system in a vacuum cleaner with the heat sinks. Optimization model for the heat sink was developed using the commercial computational fluid dynamics code FLUENT. The cooling performance of the vacuum cleaner was analyzed by a visualization technique of temperature variation. In this study, the porous medium approach was employed to specify the flow resistance and pressure drop in the dust filter. As a result, the data obtained with the numerical method was generally in good agreement with those obtained by the experiments. Detailed effects of the various parameters of heat sinks were discussed, and consequently these parameters had a great influence upon the cooling performance of the vacuum cleaner.
