This study analyzed the kind of costumes which villagers wore whenever the traditional Na was annually held at New Year's Day, in Go-ui village, Hebei Province, China. As the study methods, a literature review and two field investigations were conducted. The findings show following characteristics of costumes by characters who participated in rituals and feasts. First, the costumes of characters taking part in the Na are based on Chinese traditional ones, indicating the traditional characteristic of costumes for classical Chinese opera which has been partially changed or to which some dramatic factors have been added. Second, each character appearing in the Na wore their own costumes representing their roles and statuses, implicating the symbolist one of colors and patterns embedded in the traditional culture. Third, red colors were used for cloth of masks and trousers worn by legendary hermits, suggesting the red colors' incantatory one as an exorcism function which expelled bad evils and prayed for well-being.
