Railroad vehicles require a considerable amount of maintenance cost for preventive maintenance to ensure high safety and operational reliability. With the continuous expansion of railway services, various diagnostic technologies have been developed and applied to improve the efficiency and safety of railway vehicle maintenance. In this study, we investigated the domestic and foreign technology trends of a railroad vehicle wheel diagnosis device. In addition, we evaluated the characteristics of the wheel defect signal identified through prior research and proposed the technology review items necessary for the development of the wheel diagnosis device based on rail vibration and strain.
