Antibiotics used in acne are effective in relieving inflammation in short-term use. However, long-term use of antibiotics has several potential side effects. For this reason, there are many studies on the effective ingredients of acne using plant extracts. Therefore, this study aims to utilize the research trends of acne ingredients for improvement of acne skin as basic data to help to improve various acne symptoms. As a result, the trend of natural medicinal plant extracts about anti-acne effect, it was found that the extracts of Magnoliae officinalis, Psoralea corylifolia L., Inula helenium L., Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. latilobum, Pine neddle, Schizandra chinensis, Houttuynia cordata Thunberg, stem with flowers and seeds of Cuscuta japonica Chois., Eucommiaulmoides OLIV., Phellodendron amurense, Oxalis corniculata L., Galla Rhois, Melia toosendan Sied, mixed compounds of Xanthii Fructus, fruits from Rubus coreanus Miquel, isoflavone, curcumin., propolis, Centella asiatica, Ostericum Koreanum Roots, Paeonia japonica, Scrophularia buergeriana, Scutellaria baicalensis, Taraxacum officinale, Chamaecyparis obtusa Endl., Hericium erinaceum, Agaricus blazei Murill and Ganoderma lucidum have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects against some acne bacteria. Moreover, Tea tree oil, manuka oil, lemon and eucalyptus, myrtle, Irregular-streak Newlitsea oil, nutmeg tree oil, and Thymus quinquecostatus oil showed antimicrobial activity from some acne bacteria.
