Glasses have become a significant part of our daily life as they are widely used in the buildings and the mobile phone displays. Among the functional glass materials, glass-ceramics are widely used in recent times and are distinguished due to their special properties. Glass-ceramics are polycrystalline solids prepared by controlled crystallization of glass. They are used as tough glass-ceramics, biocompatible glass-ceramics, and low thermal expansion glass-ceramics. Among the glass-ceramics, low thermal expansion glass-ceramics has received much attention due to their excellent thermal, mechanical, and optical properties and commercially used as cook top panels and telescope mirrors. In this work, we reviewed the general theory and application of glass-ceramics.
