The batch test was conducted to investigate the characteristics of Cd adsorption using two species of unicellular algae, Spirulina platensis and Chlorella pyrenoidosa, under various conditions including initial Cd concentration, amount of adsorbent, pH, and temperature. In addition, adsorbed Cd in a batch test was investigated through the adsorption isotherm. From the results, Cd adsorption on Spirulina platensis and Chlorella pyrenoidosa was finished within 10 minutes. The higher adsorbed amount of Cd was shown as increasing of Cd concentration from 50 ppm to 200 ppm and no more increasement was not shown as increasing initial Cd concentration. The maximum adsorption capacities was present at pH 4.5 ~ 5.5 and 25 ~ 30oC. In the adsorption isotherm, the characteristics of Cd adsorption was well expressed with both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacities using Spirulina platensis and Chlorella pyrenoidosa was 59.2 mg/g and 46.1 mg/g, repectively.
