This paper presents the design and structural analysis for the drill rig and boom of a down-the-hole (DTH) drilling machine. The purpose of the structural analyses is to design the drill rig and boom to satisfy the structure safety criterion. The static analysis was performed by analyzing the stress distributions in the structure parts. The stress distributions are computed by applying the dead weights to the parts for the various work positions. On the other hand, the dynamic analysis was carried out by investigating the time histories of stress at stress-concentrating points. The time histories are obtained by considering the impact force and rotating force. The static/dynamic structural analysis for the drill rig and boom shows that the proposed design satisfies the target safety criterion.
