In this study, the structural analysis of a top-hammer drilling (THD) machine is performed by using the flexible multibody dynamics. To facilitate the analysis, some components of the THD machine are modelled as flexible bodies and the other components are modelled as rigid bodies. Components that are modelled as flexible bodies must be carefully selected by the entire components. This is because selection affects analytical goal as well as computational efficiency. The flexible components are selected based on the finite element analysis for the whole THD machine when the machine is in a static state. After establishing a model of flexible multibody dynamics, the time histories of stress are computed at stress concentration areas for various task motions. This study also suggest the sequence of task to minimize maximum stress at the machine components.
