한일 양국 시민들의 환경에 대한 의식을 생활쓰레기문제를 중심으로 환경실태에 대한 의식을 조사 고찰해 본 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저선 환경실태에 대한 인식에 관해서는 첫째, 쓰레기문제를 비롯한 환경에 대한 관심도에서는 관심이 있다고 밝힌 사람이 한일 양국 모두 70%가 넘어 평소의 관심도가 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 쓰레기문제를 비롯한 환경 문제에 대한 정보는 양국 모두 TV, 라디오, 신문 등의 언론 기관을 통하여 가장 많이 얻고 있었다. 셋째, 쓰레기문제의 발생 원인에 대해서는 한국은 ‘일회용품’을 원인으로 생각하는 사람이 가장 많았으나 일본은 ‘대량생산, 대량소비, 대량폐기의 생활양식’을 선택하는 사람이 가장 많았다. 넷째, 국가나 지방 자치 단체의 역할에 대해서는 한일 양국 모두 사람의 의식을 높이는 환경교육에 대한 요구가 가장 많이 나타났다. 다섯째, 환경보전과 경제 발전과의 관계에 대해서는 양국 모두 환경보전에 우선순위를 두는 것으로 나타났다.
The results of research on awareness about the current environmental situation by considering household waste problems in Korea and Japanese as follows. First, more than 70% of people in both Korea and Japan said that in general they had an interest in environmental problems including garbage problems. Second, in both countries, people receive information about environmental problems (including garbage problems) through mass media such as TV, radio, newspapers etc. Third, concerning the cause of garbage problems, people in Korea identified “disposables”as the biggest contributor however, people in Japan were more likely to chose “life style of mass production, mass consumption, and mass waste”. Fourth, both Koreans and Japanese saw that responsibility for environmental education and increased awareness lay with government and local government.
