최근 학교 통일교육의 내실화와 활성화를 위해 ‘통일교육 의무화’ 논의가 제기된 바 있다. 이 글의 목적은 최근 ‘통일교육 의무화’ 움직임에 직면하여 대학 통일교육의 현 좌표를 점검하고 아울러 대학 통일교육 의무화를 비판적으로 검토하면서 향후 통일교육 활성화를 위한 개선 방향에 대해 논의하는 것이다. 이를 위해 우선 통일교육 의무화에 대한 논의의 준거로서 ‘교육 규제 및 규제완화’에 대한 논의를 검토했다. 이어서 학교 및 사회 통일교육의 사각지대에 놓여 있는 대학 통일교육의 현황을 돌아보고, 최근 제기되고 있는 통일교육 의무화 논의를 대학 부문에 초점을 맞춰 분석했다. 이를 바탕으로 대학과 정부의 역할에 초점을 맞춰 대학 통일교육의 개선방향을 모색했다.
In recent years scholars have discussed the ‘compulsory of unification education’ for substantiality and activation of school unification education. The purpose of this paper was to identify the status of university unification education, to critically review ‘compulsory of unification education’, and to propose the direction for the development of university unification education. To this end, this paper has reviewed the theoretical discussion on regulation and deregulation of education to discuss ‘compulsory of unification education.’ And this paper was to explore status of university unification education which lies in a blind spot of the formal unification education, and to discuss ‘compulsory of unification education’ focusing on the university sector. Based on these discussions, this paper has sought the role of universities and government for the direction for the development of university unification education.
