본 논문은 고등학교 윤리 선택과목의 명칭을 유지해야 한다는 교사들의 요구 조사 분석 결과를 논의한다. 과목 명칭에 대한 요구 분석 결과, 교사들은 2022 도덕과 교육과정 개정 과정에서 선택과목 명칭을 ‘생활과 윤리’에서 ‘현대사회와 윤리’로 바꾸는 명칭 변경의 타당한 근거 부재, 명칭 변경의 기대 효과 부족, 교과목의 정체성과 성격 및 목표의 본질 훼손 등의 이유로 적절하지 않다고 인식한다. 기존 과목 명칭을 변경하려면 변경을 정당화할 타당한 근거가 있어야 하고, 해당 과목을 대학수학능력시험 과목으로 선택해 학습하는 학생과 효과적 학습 안내 책무가 있는 교사들을 설득할 수 있어야 한다. 교사들은 과목 명칭 변경이 학문 지식, 교과 교육, 사회적 요구 측면 모두에 대해 타당한 근거가 없고 교사들의 의견을 수렴하지 않은 비민주적 의사결정으로 판단하면서 ‘생활과 윤리’ 명칭을 유지해야 한다는 의사를 표현한다.
This paper discusses the results of the analysis of teachers' demands for maintaining the name of the high school ethics elective course. As a result of the analysis of the demand for the name of the subject, teachers said that changing the name of the elective course from ‘Life and Ethics’ to ‘Modern Society and Ethics’ in the course of the revision of the Moral Education curriculum in 2022 lacks a valid rationale for the name change and the expected effect of the name change. And it has the effect of undermining the identity of subject such as characteristics and goal. To change the name of an existing course, there must be a clear rationale to justify the change and to persuade students who choose to study the elective as an SAT course and teachers who have a responsibility for effective instructional guidance. Teachers recognized that the change of course name from 'Life and Ethics' to 'Modern Society and Ethics' was an undemocratic decision-making that did not have a valid basis in terms of academic knowledge, subject education, and social-cultural demands and did not collect the opinions of teachers. So, Ethics teachers insist on keeping course name as 'Ethics and Life'.
