본 연구는 도시의 가치와 경쟁력의 제고에 대한 많은 도시의 고민과 관심이 높아지는 현 상황에서 문화를 활용한 도시 활성화에 대한 최근의 경향과 해결 방안을모색하였다. 이에 문화적 수단을 통한 도시경쟁력 제고의 방안으로 시설 확충, 인구 증가, 경제 활동 활성화 등을 그 해결 관점에서 사례 연구로 공주시 문화도시센터를 모델로 하였다. 공주시는 문화체육관광부(2021)로부터 문화도시로 지정되었으며 사전 조사와 전문적인 텍스트 연구를 바탕으로 미래문화유산 분야에 초점을맞춘 구체적인 사업들을 이끌어 왔다. 주요 사업으로는 공주 그림상점로와 갤러리 주간 사업 등을 통해 지역과 그 도시가 가지는 경쟁력 강화를 시행하였다. 분석결과를 보면, 도시경쟁력의 핵심 요소로서 문화시설의 확대, 인구증원 및 개발, 경제 활동 활성화에 이르는 모든 측면에서 성과를 내는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 문화도시 센터의 역할 강화와 지속가능성을 위해 좀 더 다양한 사업의 계획과 실행단계에서의 다양한 주체의 협력과 행정기관과의 다각적인 협의가 필요할 것으로 본다. 본 연구는 향후 문화도시 사업의 방향성 도출과 발전을 위한 기초자료로써 이론적제계화는 물론 현업에도 기초자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 본다.
This study focused on examining recent trends and solutions for urban revitalization through cultural means, responding to the heightened concerns and growing interests of many cities in augmenting the value and competitiveness of city. Accordingly,a case study of the Gongju Cultural City Center was conducted as a model to address the enhancement of urban competitiveness through cultural means, focusing on aspects such as facility expansion, population growth, and the activation of economic activities from a problem-solving perspective. Gongju City was designated as a cultural city by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism(2021). Leveraging preliminary investigations and specialized textual studies, it has spearheaded specific projects focusing on future cultural heritage domains. As a core project, efforts were made to enhance the competitiveness of the region and the city through initiatives such as the Gongju Art Shop Street and the Gallery Weekly Project. Analytical results revealed significant achievements across all aspects related to urban competitiveness, including the expansion of cultural facilities, population growth and development, and the activation of economic activities. To enhance the role and sustainability of the Cultural City Center, it is considered essential to facilitate diverse collaboration among various stakeholders and engage in multifaceted consultations with administrative bodies from the planning to the execution stages of a broader spectrum of initiatives. This study is considered valuable not only for establishing theoretical frameworks but also as foundational data that can be utilized in the field for deriving future directions and advancements in the Cultural City project.
